3.8 Codebook

The codebook was briefly mentioned in 3.6 Extract Tagged Variables when we looked at the code book pages for the variables R0214700 and R0214800 to find the response value codes for race? = 'black' = '2' and sex? = 'male' = '1'. Notice below we have added a variable, R0010600, to our sample tag set. This variable was gathered in an actual survey question, S02Q01, its response value codes contain frequencies, impart more response nuances than the previously tagged variables, and contain some refusals and invalid skips.

Click on the Name , R0010600, listed below to view its codebook record.

Name Question Variable Title Year
1 R0000100 CASEID IDENTIFICATION CODE 1979
2 R0000149 *Created HOUSEHOLD IDENTIFICATION NUMBER 1979
3 R0010600 S02Q01 MARITAL STATUS 1979
4 R0214700 *Created R'S RACIAL/ETHNIC COHORT FROM SCREENER 1979
5 R0214800 *Created SEX OF R 1979

When you click on a variable's name in the Name column, the codebook information for that variable will appear in a new window. The codebook record for a variable is always accessible by clicking on a variable's Name. The codebook can contain any of the following information on a variable depending on the type of question in which it was gathered:
