NLSY79 1979-2010 Mainfile and Work History Release, March 2012
The Investigator contains the most recent release of each NLS cohort. Known problems with the current release of the Child-Young Adult are found below. Corrections have been made to items noted in the Errata of prior releases. For further questions, please contact NLS User Services.
NLSY79 Errata and User Notes
Data Error/Update
1) Data Correction for 2010 Foreclosure Question (March 2012)
Data for one of the 2010 questions related to foreclosures has been found to be missing a large number of cases, and was released under an incorrect question name. Data for the missing cases was collected under another question name. The data for the missing cases was inadvertently not combined and included in the release. The affected variable in the currently posted data is:
For survey year 2010 (round 24):
T30962.00 R OR SPOUSE/PARTNER CURRENTLY OWN RESIDENCE FORECLOSEURE8
The corrected data item will be included the next time the data is posted, with the same reference number, but under the question name "FORECLOSURE-2".
The appropriate universe for FORECLOSURE-3 is as follows:
- Respondent/spouse/partner does not currently own the house in which the respondent lives, or the respondent doesn't know, or refuses to answer ("No/0", "Refused/-1" or "Don't Know/-2" response to FORECLOSURE-2).
The appropriate universe for FORECLOSURE-4 is as follows:
- Respondent/spouse/partner currently owns the house in which the respondent lives ("Yes/1" response to FORECLOSURE-2), or;
- Respondent/spouse/partner has owned a house in which respondent was living at some time between January 2007 and the interview date ("Yes/1" to FORECLOSURE-3).
The skip patterns for FORECLOSURE-2 are as follows:
- If Respondent/spouse/partner currently own the house in which the respondent is living, then respondent goes to FORECLOSURE-4 (FORECLOSURE-2 = "Yes/1", go to FORECLOSURE-4)
- If Respondent/spouse/partner does not currently own the house in which the respondent is living, then respondent goes to FORECLOSURE-3 (FORECLOSURE-2 = "No/0", go to FORECLOSURE-3)
- If Respondent refuses to answer FORECLOSURE-2 or does not know the answer to FORECLOSURE-2, then respondent goes to FORECLOSURE-3 (FORECLOSURE-2 = "Refused/-1" or "Don't Know/-2", go to FORECLOSURE-3)

2) General Health Questions Missing for 2010 (April 2012)
Data for several of the 2010 questions on respondents’ general health behaviors was found to be missing from the currently posted data. The variables in question are listed below. These variables will be included the next time the data is posted.

The labels for the response set for the 2010 Q11-GENHLTH_2A_2 are incorrect in the NLSY79 (1979-2010) data base currently posted. These labels will be corrected the next time the data is posted. The affected variable is listed below with the correct response labels.
