Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY), the study focused on 195 African American adolescent mothers and their 14 to 18 year-old children. Pearson product moment correlations were used to determine the relations between the dependent and predictor variables and to determine the extent to which the predictor variables are correlated with each other. Multiple regression analysis was employed to examine the combined effect of the predictor variables on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R). The following variables were predictive of adolescents' PPVT Scores in the multiple regression analysis: maternal intelligence, maternal education, and quality of the home environment. |
