Multiple regression reveals that male children, younger children, children with health problems, and children living in poverty have lower HOME scores. Children of black and Mexican-Hispanic mothers, mothers with low self-esteem, and mothers living in the South have weaker home environments. While greater occupational complexity of mothers results in a stronger home environment, the same for fathers results in a weaker home environment. Finally, fewer children and greater interaction of the mother with her spouse lead to stronger home environments. |
