The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of wives' educations on their husbands' earnings. A human capital earnings function that allows for sample selectivity is estimated on data from the NLS of Young Men's 1981 interviews. Sample selection bias is shown to have significant impact on some of the estimates. The results indicate that a wife's education has no independent effect on her husband's earnings; any influence attributed to wives' educations by previous research is actually due to other human capital variables or due to the sample selection bias.
